Background checks

Once your application has been processed, it is sent directly to AusCheck.

AusCheck is a division within the Department of Home Affairs, which is responsible for coordinating the background checks of MSIC applicants.

The background checking process includes:

  • A criminal records check undertaken by CrimTrac, which is used to determine if an applicant has an adverse criminal record
  • A security assessment conducted by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO)
  • A criminal intelligence assessment is conducted by Austrlian Criminal Intelligence Commision (ACIC)

A parent or guardian of applicants younger than 14 years of age, must provide consent within the application in order for the applicant to undergo the national security assessment.

In order to do this you must select the acceptance check box at the end of this training module acknowledging that your personal information will be used by AusCheck to coordinate these background checks. The AusCheck privacy notice is available at the end of this training session and explains what will happen with the information you provide.
