The Government does not set the price of an MSIC. The cost of a Pilbara Ports MSIC includes the fee payable to the AusCheck for the background check undertaken by Crimtrac, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).
Payment may be made in EFTPOS or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). A company purchase order will be accepted, if provided by an approved client.
All costs are in Australian dollars and include GST.

Updated fee structure
From 1 July 2026, AusCheck will move to covering all of its own costs for background checking services. This will lead to higher fees for background checks. While formal communications will commence from 1 July, the new pricing will take effect from 1 August 2026 and will be released shortly.
These changes are driven by the Australian Government and support the integrity, security and long-term sustainability of Australia’s background checking system.
In addition, a new fee will apply to access cards, including those issued to contractors, licensees, and third-party personnel.

Note: Applicants who hold a four-year MSIC may withdraw consent for the mid-term check to be completed. Withdrawal of consent must be in writing and the MSIC must be returned to the issuing body prior to the mid-term check being completed.
In this instance the applicant may be entitled to a refund for the cost of the mid-term check only.
Should an applicant not be approved for a four-year MSIC, the applicant may apply to be reimbursed for the amount of the second background check only.
Should an applicant not be approved for a two-year MSIC, the applicant is not entitled to a refund. MSIC’s that are “Not Approved” can be appealed through the discretionary MSIC process, which is discussed with the cardholder at the time of non-approval.
